Conservationists in Peru have found cockfighting to be linked to the species of large-tooth sawfish. According to them, cockfighters may help preserve the species, or could be the reason for their extinction.
For conservationists in Latin America, roosters are not the only victims of cockfighting. The endangered species of hawksbill sea turtles have also become an unlikely victim, harvests for their shells which are then turned into cockfighting spurs.
