Pintakasi, the Philippines’ long-running cockfighting event, has gone global. Under the name Roligon Pintakasi International Challenge, the cockfight event is set to happen in Paranaque City, Philippines, in February 2023.
The Philippines is home to several international cockfighting derbies, such as the World Slasher Cup.
Slated to begin on February 18. 2023, the 12-cock International Gamefowl Breeders Derby (The Bloodline Challenge) opens with a three-cock Group A eliminations. Group B and C eliminations follow on February 20 and 21, while the four-cock semifinals are set to occur on February 22 (Group A), 23 (Group B), and 24 (Group C).
The first 40 entries with 4, 4.5, or 5 points will combat for the five-cock pre-finals on the 25th. The rest of the entries that acquire similar accumulated points are set to take the stage on February 27.
All other entries with 5.5, 6, 6.5, and 7 points after the pre-finals will clash in the five-cock finals for the championship. A Galo Meliton trophy, named in honor of the late Sabong Magazine publisher and known as “Father of Cockfight Derby” in the Philippines, will be handed out. The title of Pintakasi Champion will be etched in a Perpetual Trophy which will be permanently installed in the Roligon Mega Arena lobby.
Rolando “Ka Lando” Luzong and Nick Crisostomo are set to host the event. “This is a first-of-its-kind event at the historic Roligon Mega Cockpit wherein the first P3 M, P4 M, P6.5 M, P8.8 M, and P10 M derby promotions took place. These daring promotions led by Rolly Ligon showed the way how marathon cockfighting tournaments should be held that served as models for breeders’ federation derbies staged later on,” said Luzong.
