Authorities in County Monaghan, Ireland Find Dead Roosters After a Suspected Cockfighting Event

The Irish police, also known as Gardaí, found around 15 dead roosters at a property in County Monaghan. The property is suspected to have operated a cockfighting event.

In Ireland, cockfighting is illegal.

In a statement, Gardaí said that they received a report of suspected cockfighting at a private residence in Emyvale. According to them, people fled the scene when the officers arrived.

After the crowd fled, the officers sought assistance from the Department of Agriculture to obtain a warrant to search the property.

Upon the officers’ sweep of the property, they found the aforementioned 15 dead roosters and 70 more live roosters. The living roosters were seized by the staff from the Department of Agriculture.

The Gardaí said that aside from the birds, evidence of suspected cockfighting was also confiscated.

The case is being treated as an animal welfare incident. The officers are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
